Level Design and Lighting

This month I am tasked to create an entire level from scratch.

All the modular meshes are created as primitive BSPs first, then imported into Maya for scale to create blockout static meshes. First pass is blockouts, snapping and basic layouts in Unreal Engine 4.

Second pass has me adding detail to the maya primitives and UVing them accordingly. We learn to layout UVs for tiling meshes (outside of 0-1 zones). I create basic materials in Substance Designer and learn to create a Master Material for universal use in my UE4 project. Materials are applied appropriately, including emissive materials.

Third pass involves lighting, mainly. I learn lighting placement and proper setting tweaking to recreate a scene. Materials are fixed in this pass to accommodate lighting limitations.

Fourth pass is the polish (no pun intended*) pass. We finalize detail and render our end result for the month.

*Polish Pass = Poznan Imperial Castle as reference...located in...Poland...! XD
